Open Studios was Awesome! We had 76 visitors over the course of the weekend and one couple came all the way from Hilton Head for Open Studios and I was on their route! I had so many great people come by the studio to see my work, I was very pleased and happy with the outcome and not to mention exhausted and still recovering! I have hopes to participate again next year even though we will have a little baby in tow!!!

This show has got to be awesome! There will be 124 pieces hung at the Mac Gallery in Greenville, Friday, October 30, 2009! Each piece had to be 12" x 12" so all of the pieces will be the same size, different themes and different mediums! AWESOME!!!

Greenville's Open Studios is November 6, 7, and 8 and this year my studio will be open to the public for the first time! Mark your calendars and get ready for a great weekend. Not only is it Open Studios but it's also First Friday! Lots of art for everyone! Come out to my studio and see what's been going on lately. I will have a lot to choose from, paintings big and small, paper collages, fabric collages, waxed collages and handmade pillows just to name a few things! A Million Little Pictures Update

Thank you so much to everyone who participated in this exhibition. We had such a great time going through everyones photos and creating the exhibition. The exhibition is tonight at Art House from 7-10pm! The show will also be up next friday October 2nd from 7-10pm! I have already took photos and posted them up on our flickr page http://www.flickr.com/photos/arthousecoop/sets/72157622327857739/.

We will have a webcam going tonight if you want to check out the show live. The broadcast will start at about 7pm and be turned off about 9pm. Please note that we can not change the camera angle and that only 50 people are aloud to view at a time. Please keep checking back if you can not get in right away. handmade pillowcase amp cover!

Check it out! I made this about a year ago and keep forgetting about it. I made it for a Venus magazine contest and didn't win. They probably stole my idea and we'll be seeing it soon in the magazine. At any rate it's a small amp cover I made from a pillowcase. It is even padded to make it protective as well as cute and styling when you take your amp up on stage. Peeps will be thinking how cool does that girl look with her handmade amp cover!

I decided to post some pages from one of my newer sketchbooks. I usually keep several going at all times. It seems like each one takes on it's own vibe so it's best to keep it separated. As you can see most of these are collages and most are bunnies, not sure why, but I have this obsession with rabbits lately. Not too long ago my husband and I noticed that our cat had something cornered outside, taking a closer look we discovered it was, what we thought, was baby rabbit. After we got Kitka the cat away from it we also discovered that she had pulled some of it's hair out of it's back. Ouch! We immediately took it to a wildlife specialist for rabbits. She said it was an adult rabbit, that adult wild rabbits are small. We thought it was a baby and it was so cute and sweet. Is there anything sweeter than a little rabbit? Wait, my Jackson is that sweet. Jackson is our collie mix doggie. Sweet boy!!!

Lovely vintage flowers! Each one is so unique and the colors are so vibrant with details galore...This is a sample of my collection of vintage metal and enameled pins. I love them for so many reasons. One main reason is that they have seen so much for so many years, they carry so many memories as they hang off of your shirt, coat or hat. They take you back in time when life was simpler. I have many more but I took a few out to take these pictures. These pins will be available at my booth at the Big Crafty Show in Asheville, NC July 13, 2009. My handmade shop is the green wardrobe. I will have the green wardrobe and the snail mail art shops combined that day for my booth at the Big Crafty show!

Let's Go Camping!

Scott and I had so much fun! We cooked great food, or at least Scott did, Chef Scott! We road our bikes, we drank champagne with breakfast, we chased the racoons, we visited the lighthouse, we lounged on the beautiful beach. One morning we got up in time to see the sun rise and it was worth it! Good times to remember. Before we left we decided to invest in one of those blow up mattresses and it was well worth the purchase! It was funny at times cause when Scott would get up I would pop up in the air! We took my old faithful EZ up for outdoor shelter so if it rained we wouldn't have to stay in the tent, glad we did cause it rained most of the day Wednesday. But even with a little rain we had a great time and would definitely do it again! Hunting Island was the bomb!

Scott and I went camping a couple of weeks ago at a place I had never heard of Hunting Island, SC. We had the best time. We cooked out, road our bikes, sun bathed, and went on mini adventures. Fun times for sure. Today I have posted some pictures of the Lighthouse on the park grounds, the bar and Johnson Creek Tavern (over the Jose Cuervo bottle at the bar is a dollar bill that says Charles Scales I made). That's Scott wondering around on one of our little adventures at the beach one day and the other is the beautiful landscape around the park. Last is the sunset we got up in time one morning to capture. We had so much fun. Tomorrow I will post some pictures of our campsite and the Chef!

I wanted to post some of my crafty and artsy goodies to share with everyone. Most of these items will be available at Art & Light Gallery this weekend!

The first two pictures are a couple of my new large paintings/collages available at Art&Light Gallery this weekend!

The next few pictures are my newest paper collages and are available at Art&Light Gallery as well!

The pillows here are all handmade pillows of misc. fabrics, some are painted , some are embroidered. These pillows will soon be available in my shop.

The boxes are vintage portable bars, I have cleaned, painted and restocked (not with the liquor of course) but with all the barware you would need for a super fun road trip! These are available at Art&Light Gallery! The gallery will be open this Saturday, May 23 from 10:00 am until 3:00 p.m. Stop by and check out the gallery, Teresa has a ton of cool items there!!!!

It's from Rev.Hugo in the sunshine state of Florida.

I've been so busy lately that I finally decided to take a break! My husband and I went away on vacation and are now back with a few new pictures and lots to tell about! Soon to come, maybe tomorrow.

Tomorrow I'm taking a great art class (wonderland still life with mixed media and paper mache) at Art & Light Gallery, come out if you can and participate, it should be really cool.

Looking forward to Friday night...Teresa of Art & Light Gallery has asked me to be a part of her opening this Friday night to share my new paintings with everyone! I am so excited and nervous at the same time...at any rate, I have posted a few sneak peak previews of some of the pieces that you will see when you come out Friday night, May 1st, 2009 from 6-9 pm at Art & Light Gallery on Pendleton Street in Greenville.

The pieces I will be showing are all new and never before seen! This has been fun keeping it all a secret. I will have large mixed medium paintings, fabric collages, and paper collages all with an ongoing theme of spring and love. I have mixed canvas, misc. papers, acrylic paint and pencils to create a body of work that I am much proud of...I hope you will enjoy!

See ya there this Friday night, May 1st from 6-9 pm. Just so you know, Teresa will have the gallery open for further viewing every Saturday the month of May.

This is some really cool snail mail art I recently received.

The first is from Bendigo in the UK. This is a collaged handmade postcard.

The second is from David Berubel in New York, it looks to be a printed handmade postcard.

I love them both and they are greatly appreciated! Not too long ago I mailed out a few artist trading cards from a snail mail list someone had given me and these are some peeps that returned some art to me! Feeling the love for sure guys! Thanks a ton and keep up the great work!

Saturday's Craft Show at Art & Light

What a great fun day! Loads of peeps came and bought and hung out! Fun times! These are just a few pictures from the day. It was so busy I forgot to take pictures until it was all over and then we were exhausted! I'll post more later.

I brought some paper collages, snail mail art, handmade pillows and my newest item was the three boxes in the middle...vintage portable bars revamped/upcycled.

Look at the lovely cake that the little cafe down the street made for us. It was DELICIOUS and gluten free!

Coffee to a Tea on Lois Street - just around the corner from Village Studios and Gallery was the baker of this lovely cake!

This is a little package of handmade friendship books from a new pen pal of mine. She's really sweet and loves to write me on occasion. I love to get her letters and packages to find out what's going on in her life. Funny! Below I have posted what a friendship book is for your convenience, just in case you might not know what they are. Give it try, they are kinda fun and a great form of snail mail!

Friendship books (also known as "FBs" in their abbreviated form) are small booklets made by stapling paper together, or are sometimes just sheets or strips of paper. They are usually decorated and the person who starts the book writes their name and address as the first person sending the book. People often include a list of interests as well. The FB is then passed around from penpal to penpal, and can often also become a way for one to meet new penpals. Most people hope to see the book again once it is full so they add their return address to the back cover of the book too, or inscribe "Return to Sender" on it. People also sometimes make FBs for someone else rather than themselves, in which case they write the name and address of the recipient on the front/at the top. Some people find friendship books fun because you can see where they have been in a trail back to the original sender/recipient.

The German friendship books (or poetry albums) serve a similar purpose but are kept, not sent away. Access is considered more intimate; sometimes the book even has a lock. The information given about oneself often includes quotations, poetry and worldly wisdom. Typically they are more like shared journals between two best friends or a couple and are kept at ones of their houses.

Friendship books that require entrants to make drawings, use stickers or magazine photographs are known as "deco" friendship books or just simply "decos". Typically, each entrant in the "deco" must use one full page to express themselves. Glitter, sequins, feathers and other scrapbooking supplies are frequently used in "decos." Despite the artistic expressions used in these types of friendship books, the basic rules of passing the friendship book to person to person is the same.

When a 'friendship book' is only one page (no staples), it's called a 'friendship sheet.' If the page is small, like the size of a postcard, or smaller, it's called a 'cram.' Friendship books that have a musical theme, where you have to add lyrics to your entry, are called "lyrics" or "lyrics sheets".

Great morning everyone! I got this package of snail mail this week and was so excited when I got home and it was in the mail box! It came from Ms. Ginger Chew Raccoon aka Megan. This girl is so creative! The drawing to the left she did not too long ago, her message was written on the backside of this drawing. Isn't it an amazing drawing? The stack of fabric is from her fabric collection. Below are postcards from Megan's pc collection she has passed onto me, which is greatly appreciated and will be shared with others soon! Best of all is her goddess paper doll and her little paper bird she made at a craft night. She plans some day to make a whole plethora of paper animals. I can't wait to see this collection!!! Then, last but not least is her package everything was in (front and back) this part I always love. Megan does such a great job turning a regular old brown envelope into something really special. Me and two other crafty and artsy fartsy friends, Laurie Kraft and JL Dykes are getting together April 18th for a little show at the Art & Light Gallery here in Greenville. The gallery is on Pendleton Street in the new West Greenville Art District or better known as the Pendleton St Arts District. I think everyone will love this area, it's very cool and bohemian...not so rah-sha-sha, if you know what I mean!

Come out April 18th from 10 am until 4 pm for some really cool handmade goodies and creative artwork and jewelry or just to hang out with some creative peeps!

I found this website and wanted to share. You mail in objects for showing at the Museum of Temporary Art for a temporary viewing. I thought it was so cool! But you have to hurry and get your entry in because when they reach 1000 entries the exhibit is closing! As of March 25, 2009 they were still open and have 966 entries as of that date.

The museum itself is located in my home. It is about 40x50 cm big and has 33 compartments.
This website is a representation of what is currently in the museum, i.e. the compartments.

The Idea
Most of the objects in the museum are linked to a memory or anecdote which increases their
actual value far beyond the materialistic one. The museum is a chance to give such seemingly
meaningless objects the platform they deserve. They are Temporary Art.

The Contributors
Anyone, who is able to see beyond the surface and is willing to part with such an invaluable

This latest creation is my response to Ms. Honeycutt.
I like keeping the dark blue background. This time instead of keeping the page square I felt the need to break out and cut it into a circle. The rose is one of my favorite flowers to draw, it's simple I know but I like it. Keeping with our bird theme, I cut this little bird out of a paper and fabric collage I have been cutting from, stitched him on the circle and cut his tail to look frayed. The stitch, stitch, stitched the edges of the circle. Done. I hope you like Ms. Honeycutt! I can't wait to see her response. I can't remember how many we agreed on but this is so much fun, I encourage everyone to give it a try, go on, bend a little!

Thought I might post about some of my recent artwork I've been working on for my husband. He has a new band called "the ragged orchids", their sound is like americana music with a more country twang. I wanted the artwork to look somewhat rustic so I stuck with colors of nature...brown, green, cream, yellow (love those colors). I've been enjoying experimenting with fabric and paper stitched together, seeing the stitches on the paper and fabric excites me. The band is getting ready to do some recording but for now you can check out their myspace and listen to some self recorded tunes to get the idea. Enjoy this beautiful day! Oh, and don't forget to go to the Hub-Bub tonight the AIRs are having their exit show opening tonight!

Great snail mail art came in the mail this week! I got a cool letter written on found paper and included in the handmade envelope was clippings from a book of sorts, a floral tarot card, vintage postcards and two packages of tea . It was a great package to receive!!!!

This picture really doesn't give the painting justice but at any rate, I love it! Ms. Honeycutt sent me back her reply (3rd run on this art conversation) so now it is my turn to respond. It's getting tougher and tougher!!! You can't really see the cool sparklie blue that is on this one. Way to go Honeycutt! Mine is in the works (still in my head, but in the works)!

Man, what a weekend!

Scott and I got off early from work Friday and headed down to Atlanta for the sketchbook show at the Art House Coop Gallery and to hit a few guitar stores and thrift a little as well...We stayed at the Highland Inn which is such a cool inn to stay in. It's old but has a really great atmosphere, reminded me of the shining cause it was so old and cool. At any rate, we made it down early enough to do some shopping at Youngblood next door, which is a great handmade store and gallery and bought up a few goodies there. Then on to appetizers and then to the show opening. The sketchbook show was too cool for words. It was Sketchbook Project #3 and I heard it was the best outcome ever. There were over 2000 sketchbooks there, I know, kind of overwhelming! There were tons of people there and it took me forever to find mine! Man, it was so cool and Scott and I had such a great time! We met up with my cute crafty friend Becky that came out to see the show with her hubby. We had not scene each other yet at the show and I overheard this person say "We have to find Leslie Hart's sketchbook"! I laughed when I heard that and turned around and it was Becky! That was funny. I hope you enjoy the pictures, I will try and describe them all...

Saturday morning we went to the Majestic Dinner for breakfast, pancakes, hashbrowns and fried eggs...yummy yum yum! After that we went shopping...thrift stores, handmade stores, local guitar shops...I posted a fews pics of the goodies we collected. I couldn't get a picture of the cool mens blazer Scott got at Stephen's in Five Points, it was way cool, sharp and charming. Can you tell I thought it looked great on him?! He's so cute!

We made it home in time with the snow chasing us up I-85 just in time to wake up Monday morning to a yard full of snow! What a treat to have snow in March and then this weekend it's supposed to be 71 degres! I do like the warmer weather better, but like I said, it was a treat to see the snow in March.

These two pictures are of my crafty table "the green wardrobe" at the Big Crafty Craft show in Asheville this past Christmas season. The table was jam packed with lots of handmade goodies.
JL, of Wingo Designs, Laurie Kraft (an awesome assemblege artist) and I are having a show of our crafty and artsy goodies at the Art & Light Gallery April 18, 2009 from 10:00 until 4:00. Come out and see all of our handmade goodies and awesome art at really great prices. If you haven't been to the Pendleton St. Art District in Greenville, SC you are missing out. There are some very talented peeps down there and the gallery we are having the show in is also studio space, so you might catch someone creating! Mark your calendars and see ya there!

art conversation project

Left painting is my reply and the right painting is Allison's first painting in the conversation.

A new mail art friend of mine from the Art House Coop in Atlanta has suggested that we do an "art conversation". It has been very interesting and not as easy as you would think. She sent the first and then I sent her mine, I am awaiting for her reply. I can't wait to get it, the anticipation is intense! Allison wrote the rules below and it's pretty simple to follow so I hope you all can have fun with this project, I am! Although, I hope Allison will understand I am new at this, I'm sure hers will be much better of a reply than mine was. heeheehee!

Art Conversation Rules:

Two people, each sends drawings, paintings, any kind of art, 4 total, but in conversation style (one at a time). One person will start it.The rules are that you can't write any words of explaination, you get a piece of art and then you have to make another peice of art as a reply (some variation of the theme in the previous piece, or something that it make you think of, like a real conversation). You go back and forth 4 times (8 drawings between the two peeps) and then see what happens.
I would reccomend taking snap-shots of the drawings you send, because its most fun to be able to see the whole convesation all together.

I forgot to share this picture of a little Christmas ornament a very great friend gave to me this past Christmas. I love squirrels and this little buddy was a vintage one at that! Isn't he cute? I love to decorate my tree with vintage and glass ornaments every year. It seems like each year Christmas gets more rushed and we all forget the meaning. So I hope that by showing this picture of my cute little special Christmas ornament in February will help you all remember what Christmas is really all about. Enjoy! Isn't he cute?

Friday the 13th is always a spookie dookie day! Oh well, just wanted to share a few things with you as far as my snail mail art shop as you may already know, my "snail mail surprise" was featured in a Treasury and I sold one! I was so excited and would love to sale more so as to be able to make more and spread the snail mail word! I had so much fun creating, taking the polaroid picture, finding a vintage recipe, writting the personal letter, making a piece of art and looking for that little special surprise to add to the package. I hope my customer has already received her package before she sees this listing cause this is what I sent her. I wanted to share with you guys cause I justed loved the package of goodies so much I didn't wanta mail it out! Have a great Friday the 13th!

I cannot believe it is going to be close to 70 degrees this Sunday, slowly climbing to that temp today and tomorrow. I cannot wait. I think we will cook out some and maybe try to spend a lot of time outside working on painting in my sketchbook project that is almost done and soon to be mailed out to be a part of this show...sketchbook project - "everyone we know"!

The beach was so beautiful and I especially loved it this day when a storm was on the horizon.

The picture to the left is of our view from our balcony. Dreamy...

Both of these are obviously taken inside the town that we drove threw to get to the resort. We didn't get out of the bus, I had to take the pictures as we were moving.

I've decided to share some of my new collage pieces.
This piece measures about 8"x11". I started out with a vintage napkin, cut off the edges and painted the fabric with this awesome mustard yellow acrylic paint. Then I painted on a book page and put down the letters and a tracing of this cute little pony, this was then sewn onto the fabric. The circle is a drawing from an old insence package, I drew it, painted it and then cut it out and then sewn onto the fabric as well. The brown at the bottom is a piece of ribbon I found. All together you get "Free Pony Rides". Enjoy!

our trip to the Dominican Republic

Scott and I went on vacation to the Dominican Republic for a short time this January. We had such a great time that when I think back on the trip I can hardly remember everything. The time flew by so fast and we did so much while we were there and at the same time relaxed and enjoyed our surroundings...fun times to remember...

For my next few posts I will share some of my photos from the trip. Some will be from the resort grounds and some will be of the city outside of the resort.

A special friend of mine and Scott's always comes home for the holidays and he makes sure that he has dinner with us at least one night of his stay here at home in Greenville. After a dreamy indian dinner we all decided to top off the night be stopping by Riley's. Now you should know that Riley's isn't really my type of place...karaoke, line dancing, sports tvs and a lot of meat market stuff going on...yikes... David decided to stop by and when Mark and David found out they had karaoke, it was on. David sung "La Bomba" and Mark sang some kind of heavy metal song...keep in mind this is after other peeps had sung nothing but country all night! It was great, a great night to remember!

Sorry to be so late in coming back this new year. Lots going on! Scott and I are getting ready for our first time out of the country...Dominican Republic! We have lots of projects going on at the house that need so desperately to be finished!!!!! But tonight I had a conversation with a friend that said, she really wanted me to update my blog...so here goes.

To start the year off...I have posted some of many pictures I plan to share. These are of one night the band Brandy Lindsey and the Punch played at the New Gypsy in Greenville and prior to the show Scott and I got there early and while waiting around to sound check I found lots of interesting subjects to capture. The old Borden Co. building is across the street abandoned of course but it made some great pictures. Not to mention the phone booth...what?...a phone booth?...I didn't know they still existed! But, yeah, right here in Greenville!!!

The first picture is of me and Angie, she will be a year clean in just a few days! Scott and I are so glad to have her back in our lives, weird, but in a good way.

Thanksgiving 08

Thanksgiving has past and I am thankful for so much that I can't even list them all. I have to say that I am most thankful for my health and wonderful relationship with my husband Scott, my two little baby dogs Katie (14) and Jackson (10) and our families and friends. I couldn't ask for more! Well, maybe to win the lottery! At any rate our holiday was very relaxing and I really enjoyed the time off from work more than anything. I love to not have to get ready in the mornings. I always say when I'm getting ready to go to work in the morning's "you think anyone would notice if I just wore my pajamas"? Funny!!

The picture above is of my prego friend Wendy and her hubby Steve. They've got baby's first Christmas tree! Their baby is due Dec. 13th! I can't wait to see Wendy as a mommy! She will be GREAT!

The Sketchbook Project

The pier at Cocoa Beach was awesome, the entire pier was either a bar or a restaurant or both and at the very end there was tiki bar! Scott and I loved it!!!!

Look at the peeps at the base of the red rock, this mountain of red rock was so huge it was hard to grasp! Amazing!

This past month and a half has been crazy crazy. Scott and I have been away for two weeks on business trips...Orlando, Fl and Las Vegas, NV...I am so tired and ready to stay at home for a long while. I feel like nesting in and relaxing, getting into the holiday spirit and all that stuff.

The pictures I have posted are of Red Rock, Nv and a few of Cocoa Beach, Fl. We had a great time while away but I always miss my pups!

Tonight I gotta do the dishes, wash a load of clothes and make the bed when I get home. I didn't have time this morning and Scott was sick with a cold...

I really need to finish up a consignment order and get ready for a few shows coming up but I just can't get into the mood. I feel like tackling these projects in the morning when I am on my way to my job-job but once I get home I'm tired and just don't feel creative. It takes a lot out of you to work all day on an unrelated job and then go home to create! Oh well, I guess I better just get over it and start making man...

A few weekends ago Scott played at the NewWay in Spartanburg outside on the patio and the shadows were great! Here are a few pictures I snapped off while watching the show. I have more, I will try and post the others tomorrow.

I've been so busy lately trying to get things done on my endless "to do" list, I haven't had time to post stuff. At any rate, even though I haven't come close to finishing my "to do" list I will post hopefully tonight. I have some awesome mail art that I have received that I would like to share for one thing and some new art as well. I have a trade with my friend Jamie from NC and I can't wait to get it! The HubBub show was great last night, the Asylum Street Spanker! Got up this morning with a sinus headache, with these daily storms comes sinus headaches cause the barametric preasure is so high...Yuk, but we need the rain, they still haven't lifted the drought warnings.

Today is going to be a bute so Scott and I plan to work on the deck. We had some damage from on of the recent thunderstorms so we gotta repair that and then move on. Hopefully we will find some time to end the day at a reasonable time to take a dip in the community pool and then Tito's for dinner. Yum Yum Yum!

Today was a great day. The sun shined a little but it was mostly cloudy with on and off rain. I love rainy Thursdays. Tonight we are going to eat some sushi for dinner (love that too). I just love Thursdays for some reason, it may be cause the weekend is on the verge and that "on the verge" feeling feels good. Today I almost got caught up on my atc a day project, just one shy.

This weekend Scott and I took off some extra days to get some work done on the new deck we have been working on. It looks good so far and boy is it BIG! I'll try and get some pics while it's still in a work in progress. At any rate while we were off we had two mornings for champagne and one day of thrift shopping in my favorite place to thrift...Spartanburg. Great weekend!

Today I will post 5 atc's as a series of bird out outs #1, #2, #3, #4, and #5. Each one is created on cardstock with a different paper each bird cut out, three cut out hearts of graph paper, pencil used as shading and dots and lines and a layer of tulling sewn over the top that kinda flaps like a page in a book. Colors vary but each one has rounded corners...

Okay I finally got back to my atc a day...I really enjoyed creating this card today so I hope you will enjoy.

The day was beautiful with a mid 80's temp and slight winds and lots of sunshine. I would have to say this was a perfect day to me, very dreamy......

The materials I used on this atc was cardstock, graph paper I had previously typed on for another project and acrylic paint on the bird cutout, I stitched the graph paper to the cardstock and left the strings hanging ( I like that look )

Title: Words from the past...the typed messages on the graph paper came from my old high school yearbooks.

The green on the edge isn't a part of the atc, I had to lay it on the paper in order for the scanner to see it since it is so white.

Okay, heres the deal...I have been going to a fertility doctor with hopes that they can help me get prego! It has totally consumed most of my time besides working my job. I will try my best to begin a new "one-a-day" artist trading card project by July 1st.
